Robert ‘Bob' Oliver Dean

March 16, 1930 — Feb. 6, 2008

Sonora resident Robert "Bob" Oliver Dean died Feb. 6 at his home. He was 77.

Mr. Dean was born in Muskegon, Mich., to Kathryn and Oliver Dean. He attended Muskegon Heights High School. At 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was discharged in May 1950. Four months later, he was recalled to active duty and promoted to sergeant. He served two years as a naval gunfire and close air support forward observer and later as a recon specialist teams leader. He was honorably discharged in June 1952.

Following discharge, he was a deputy sheriff for Muskegon County and later a police officer for the city of Muskegon. He moved to California in 1964 and began working with the California Department of Corrections. He retired in 1991 after 26 years of active duty.

He enjoyed keeping in touch with family and friends by e-mail and phone, hunting, fishing, reading, watching television, using the computer and genealogical research. He liked to share his military experiences with family and friends and his family said he spoke of those times with great pride. He also spoke often of his police work and his experiences with the Department of Corrections.

Mr. Dean is survived by his wife of nearly 38 years, Pat; children Susan and Bobby Munsel, Rusty and Kim Ingraham, all of Tuolumne, Steve Hannon of Sonora, Debbie and Dan Rasmussen and Shari Dean of Middleton, San Mateo County, Kathleen Lewandowski of Naples, N.Y., Bobby and Janet Dean of Orange, Laurie Dean of Santa Rosa, and his daughter-in-law Carol Ingraham of Bowie, Md.; grandchildren Jenna Munsel, Cody Munsel and his fiancé Natalie Giannini, Briana and Alex Ingraham, Kristin Dean, Kelli Rasmussen of Middleton, Nicole Dean of Orange, Cory Hannon of Santa Barbara, Krista Hannon and her fiancé Jason La Pointe of Paso Robles, and William and Thomas Ingraham of Bowie; great-grandson Tyler Rasmussen of Middleton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Art and Doris Dean, Doug and Carol Dean, Larry Dean and Bruce and Carrie Dean; his aunt Laretta Dean; his sister-in-law Kathleen Crookham; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his son William "Randy" Ingraham in 1990; his granddaughter Bethany Rasmussen in 1997; and brother-in-law William "Billy" McCorry in 1972.

A vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 8 at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home in Sonora. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Feb. 9 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sonora. Burial will take place at 3 p.m. Feb. 9 Plainsburg Cemetery in Le Grand.
