WAR OF 1812 JACOB BEARD DAINS : 3rd OHIO MILITIA , blacksmith, served in the War of 1812 from October 20, 1812 through February, 1813. Jacob collected $3.10 travel money, which indicates he was about 133 miles from his point of discharge to his home. reads Rev. G.W. Daines, Founder of the Clay Hill Church in Hoxeyville, MI, near
Cadillac.
GEORGE WASHINGTON DAINES 63rd OVI. CO. E, Enlisted Nov. 20, 1861, Promoted to Principle Musician October 29, 1863. The following documents are courtesy of cousin Bill, of MI: GW Daines' Civil War Discharge Order 63rd OVI GW Civil War Discharge Order July 1865 I believe he is shown on a OVI website composite with his fife, which we have treasured, though the caption on the original picture, which is posted at the site, does not identify him as such. http://ohiocivilwar.com/music.html Fuller's Brigade was comprised of units of the 22nd, 43rd and the 63rd OVI. Note the remarkable resemblance of George Washington Daines, Principle Fifer of the 63rd OVI to the bearded man, holding a fife, seated in the composite picture of the 43rd OVI musicians. If anyone has a picture of George Washington Daines of the 63rd OVI in uniform, the webmaster would greatly appreciate the opportunity to view it and post it. We are also in search of his handwritten Civil War diary, last known to have circulated in the 1960's. See a picture of George Washington Daines upon the commemoration of his 25 years of service to the Church of Christ in Bloomingdale, MI, at Family Photos For a Regimental History and Roster of the 63rd OVI see the following links: http://www.civilwar.nps.gov http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/4688/coe.html
